President Donald Trump had a meeting today with Russia’s foreign minister and U.S. ambassador, which is no more than a day following the dismissal of FBI Director James Comey.
As spotted by reporters, the images of Trump and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Amb. Sergey Kislyak were photographed by Russian media at the White House, while U.S. media was not taking part in it.
The one meeting on Trump’s schedule today was the secret morning meeting with Lavrov. Additionally, he met with ex Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who served alongside Presidents Nixon and Ford.
John Bussey of the Wall Street Journal labeled it “awkward” for Russian media to be at the White House for the event without their American peers.
Bussey stated that the public will most probably require a bipartisan, unbiased investigation into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia so that we could reach “finality” on the matter.
More so, he asked why the firing was done in an apparent “helter-skelter” manner. Bussey stated it was “unfortunate” to have Russian officials at the White House the following day and for the administration not to speak openly about the firing right away.
